Monument Valley's rock formations are noteworthy mainly because they
resemble animals or other familiar images and need no further explanation. |
The first know inhabitants of Monument Valley were the Anasazi Indians from
around 500, but they disappeared from the region around 1200. Now it
is inhabited by the Navajo who still live without running water and
electricity. They have their traditional domed hexagonal-shaped "hogans". |

John Ford was the first Hollywood film
director to use the Monument Valley location for a film set. That
first film was Stagecoach starring John Wayne. This particular site is
also often used in automobile commercials! |
