Sir Walter Parratt, the second son of Thomas Parratt, was responsible for Huddersfield obtaining the fine Father Willis organ for the then new Town Hall. He later became the Master of the Kings music.

The Town Hall, opened in 1881. Also shown are the adjoining municipal offices.

Huddersfield has many fine buildings from the Victorian era onwards, many of which are listed.
The George Hotel, an elegant Grade II listed 1851 Victorian building,  was the birthplace of Rugby League in 1895. The Lion Buildings, which were constructed in 1852-4, housed a shopping arcade. Britannia Buildings, the original head office of the former Huddersfield Building Society.
       
The Victorian railway station was designed by J.P.Pritchett in the Classic manner with long colonnades and is one of the finest railway buildings in England. Statue of Sir Harold Wilson outside the railway station in St Georges Square. Gledholt Methodist Church
       
The art deco Library and Art Gallery, built in 1940. St Paul's Church dating from 1829 is now part of the University and was converted into a concert hall in 1980. Huddersfield University central services block dates from the 60's

Slaithwaite

     

Carr Lane, the main street in Slaithwaite. The Free School, built 1842, to provide free education for poor scholars. The Silent Woman public house, which is used as Skelthwaite Arms in 'Where the Heart Is' . The Elizabethan Manor House has 1570 carved on a beam inside.  It was built for the Kaye family.
       
A plaque commemorating the site of the Lewisham Hotel, the birthplace of Haydn Wood, composer of the World War One song 'Roses of Picardy'. When Huddersfield Town Football Club vacated the Leeds Road ground, one of the entrance gates was bought and relocated here in Bridge Street. Slaithwaite West Viaduct Slaithwaite East Viaduct
