There have been numerous air craft crashes
in the area. This B29 Flying Fortress is perhaps the biggest, with
the greatest amount of wreckage remaining. The stainless steel parts
are still shining and rust free after 50 years exposed to the elements. |

Carsington Water |
|
|
|
|
Carsington Water has been a very popular
visitor attraction since the reservoir was opened by the Queen in May
1992. The reservoir is owned and operated by Severn Trent Water and is
part of a 'water compensation' scheme. Carsington Water is a local
centre for outdoor activities - there is a sailing club active next door
to the Visitor Centre, and there are many opportunities for walking and
cycling around the reservoir |

Hopton |
|
|
|
 |
Thomas Gell built an Elizabethan manor house at Hopton which was later
known as Hopton Hall. The house was largely remodelled by Philip Gell in
the early nineteenth century. In 1883 the Hopton estate stood at 3,744
acres. Much of the estate was lost in 1978 to the Severn Trent Water
Authority in order to be flooded for the vast reservoir known as
Carsington Water
