Johnston Canyon Service Satation. Johnston Canyon.

The spiral tunnels were constructed in 1907. The train comes down the right of the valley, under the road (not built), up through the trees, into the upper tunnel, out again then into the lower tunnel and finally emerges down the left hand side of the valley. The Lower Spiral is 2,922 feet long under Mt Ogden and raises the track 56 feet. The Upper Spiral is under Cathedral Mountain, 3,255 feet long and rises 56 feet.
A print showing the line of the tunnels.  A road was constructed down the valley later. A train can just be seen through the trees towards the bottom of this photo, and the front of it is between the tunnels, across the top of the photo. The same train can now be seen in the upper part of this photo, between tunnels, and the front emerging at the bottom. If the train had been a few wagons longer, it would have been seen in all three spots at the same time.
